Radiology Q & A

What is radiology?

Radiology uses digital sensors and ionizing radiation or high-frequency sound waves to capture photos of your hard and soft tissues or internal organs. It’s a safe, noninvasive way to diagnose underlying health problems invisible to the eye. Radiology can also be used to guide certain types of treatment, like joint injections.

At Maniya Health, the team offers radiology onsite. You can undergo X-rays or an ultrasound during your next appointment, without a referral or visit to an imaging center.

What conditions can radiology diagnose?

The team at Maniya Health uses radiology to diagnose various conditions, including:

  • Cancer and tumors
  • An enlarged heart
  • Blocked blood vessels
  • Digestive problems
  • Fluid in the lungs
  • Fractures
  • Dislocated joints
  • Infections
  • Conditions affecting the internal organs

You might also benefit from radiology if the team suspects you're pregnant. An in-office ultrasound can determine the size and age of the growing fetus.

What are the types of radiology?

At Maniya Health, the team offers two types of radiology onsite:

X-rays

An X-ray is the most common type of radiology. It uses a combination of digital sensors and ionizing radiation to capture photos of your bones and joints. You wear a lead apron while getting X-rays to reduce your exposure to radiation. The process is quick, pain-free, and provides instant results.

Ultrasound

An ultrasound is a type of radiology that uses high-frequency sound waves to capture real-time images of your internal organs or other soft tissues.

During an ultrasound, your Maniya Health provider runs a small handheld device over a specific area of your body. The device emits sound waves that bounce off your internal organs, creating images. Your provider looks at the images on a computer monitor to diagnose underlying health problems or to confirm a pregnancy.

How long does it take to receive radiology results?

The team at Maniya Health provides radiology results immediately after your X-ray or ultrasound. After capturing the necessary images, your provider explains the results and develops a custom treatment plan to help you feel better.

Following radiology, is there any downtime?

No. As soon as you finish your X-ray or ultrasound, you can return to routine activities right away. There’s no downtime or recovery period necessary.
